The Rotary Club of Ridgefield’s support of Rides for Ridgefield continued this month when the club presented Rides with its annual donation.

“They’ve supported us since the very beginning,” said Margaret Thompson, founder and development chair for Rides for Ridgefield.

A relationship that began in 2013 was continued when Rotarian Joe Cleary presented the club’s donation to Rides for Ridgefield to help the not-for-profit continue its mission providing transportation options for seniors and other residents with mobility challenges.

Rotary is an international organization that also supports local organizations. Rides Board Chair David Smith, in accepting the grant added that, “Rotary helped get us off the ground six years ago and has been a strong and steady supporter ever since. Thank you very much for helping us provide rides to seniors who no longer drive.”

Rides for Ridgefield handled almost 1,000 call and 1,300 trips in 2018. Its volunteers have driven residents over 12,800 miles to medical appointments, religious services, Founders Hall, entertainment, social and other engagements.
